Yoga Walks
Individual & small group Yoga Walks at various locations on the Fleurieu Peninsula
Born in a small country town, my love of nature started early.
Whilst the idea of Yoga Walks emerged clearly for me during Covid lockdowns in Sydney in 2020, the seeds were sown back in 2000, when I spent a period of time living as a Work-Scholar at Esalen in Big Sur, California.
Whilst there, I was fortunate to attend a number of nature walk workshops facilitated by long time Big Sur local, Gestalt practitioner & Zen teacher, Steven Harper.
Walking meditations have long been a part of Buddhist mindfulness practice.
Although not a Buddhist myself, I have attended a number of Shamatha Retreats led by various Buddhist teachers in Australia, including Namkhai Nyingpo & most recently, Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe (Khenpo la), at Kamalashila Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Tilba Tilba, NSW.
Yoga Walks are an experiential, embodied awareness practice in nature.
Rather than being about exercise, or reaching a specific external destination, Yoga Walks are about the inner journey.
The setting is outdoors, where from an Ayurvedic & yogic (Samkhya philosophy) perspective, all 5 elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Space are in an ever-changing, dynamic relationship - just as they constantly are within each of us.

“What I most enjoyed about the Yoga Walk was the interplay between nature, silence, ideas, teachings and movement. The sensory input. The teachers.”
There is usually a gentle path to follow, with places to stop & sit or rest along the way. The walk might be beside a body of water like a river, lake or the ocean, often with a wide view of the horizon.
During each walk, participants are invited to utilise all 5 senses to engage with gentle guided yoga & mindfulness practices that support non-judgemental awareness of present moment experience, both inner & outer.
Some yoga postures are generally practised, according to the ability of individuals in the group, and a short, silent, mindful walking meditation invites participants to pay attention to their inner landscape whilst moving with awareness.
I regard this simple practice as preparation for pratyahara - the intentional returning of the senses inwards, which prepares the mind for meditation.
Yoga Walks usually end with a cup of herbal tea whilst sharing reflections about personal experiences observed during the walk.
Each Yoga Walk is unique, depending on location, season, time of day, weather conditions, and the specific group field that forms organically for each walk.
Yoga Walks are accessible to every body - no prior experience of any sort is required.
All walks are 1 hour duration & take place at various locations on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Please wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and bring water & a jacket.
Yoga Walks are available by appointment.
Walks may be booked individually or in a small group (maximum group size is 10 people).
Details of meeting location will be advised on booking, and personal choice of walking location may be possible.
